From shed to...
12,000 SQFT WORKSHOP IN WILTSHIRE

Armadillo Engineering started with a £2,000 grant, a shed, and a big idea, over three decades ago.

Founder Paul Edwards fell into engineering at 16, and by 19 was working alongside a Managing Director. Paul then spent a year travelling through India, and returned with a clear vision - to start his own engineering company.

With support from the Prince’s Youth Business Trust, Armadillo Engineering was born.

Where we are now

Armadillo Engineering has been delivering high-spec fabrication and precision engineering since 1992. Based in Wiltshire, we work with manufacturers and technical teams across the world on complex, time-critical projects that demand reliability, skill, and calm under pressure.

Over the past three decades, we’ve grown into a trusted team of 17 specialists, bringing together:

Mechanical engineers | DFM (Design for Manufacture) specialists | Certified coded welders and fabricators | Project Managers

This blend of skills allows us to take on everything from intricate prototypes to medium-volume production runs, always with the same focus: delivering precision, solving problems, and helping our clients succeed.

MEET THE TEAM

Paul Edwards

PAUL

Managing Director

As founder of Armadillo Engineering, Paul sets the direction of the business while remaining closely involved in day-to-day operations.

He is highly hands-on, regularly working on the shop floor and getting directly involved in projects alongside his experienced team. Paul has worked on many complex engineering projects and is very much in his element when tackling challenges that call for creative thinking and practical problem-solving.

Outside of work, Paul enjoys family ski trips, follows Formula One, loves trail cycling, and spends time painting Warhammer models with his son, where precision matters just as much as it does on the shop floor.

Michele

MICHELE

Operations, Finance Manager

Michele keeps Armadillo Engineering running smoothly behind the scenes and is your friendly first point of contact when you call Armadillo.

She’s the main go-to for anything finance, keeps orders moving, and supports HR across the business. Michele manages Armadillo's international customers, keeping them updated throughout production and coordinating delivery of their goods.

Outside of work, Michele enjoys getting lost in a good book, heading off in the camper van with her partner, making the most of the great outdoors (with a good view and no spreadsheets in sight), and braving the occasional cold open-water swim.

MIKE

Operations Manager

Mike is responsible for managing customer projects ensuring work is delivered smoothly, efficiently, and to Armadillo Engineering’s high standards.

He works closely with the precision engineering team, managing daily workloads and overseeing major projects. His experience and strong work ethic play a key role in the continued success of the business.

Outside of work, Mike is passionate about cycling in all its forms and has even ridden from the UK to Kathmandu, an impressive achievement. He’s also known for drinking a little too much coffee (probably necessary for those long rides) and rarely turns down any outdoor adventure.

Pete

PETE

General Manager

Pete oversees all workshop operations across machining, fabrication, laser, and waterjet cutting, ensuring work runs smoothly from initial enquiry through to completion.

He works closely with customers, managing quotes, materials, coordinating jobs, and production planning. Keeping work organised, scheduled, and on track across the workshop.

Outside of work, Pete loves spending time with his grandchildren, heading off on warm family holidays, and golf (strictly fair-weather only). He also has too many tense moments playing Formula One and Flight Simulator 2024, where his current aim is simply to crash less in both games… optimism pending.

FABRICATION

DAVE

Fabrication Manager

Dave manages the fabrication workshop, overseeing day-to-day operations and ensuring fabrication work is delivered safely, accurately, and to Armadillo Engineering’s high standards.

He works closely with customers on fabrication projects, preparing quotes, managing materials, and creating job cards to keep work organised and moving efficiently through the workshop.

Outside of work, Dave enjoys time with his grandchild, follows MotoGP closely, and is a keen motorbike enthusiast. Dog walks are a little less conventional; they often involve carrying his 27kg agoraphobic dog to the fields. Unlike his dog, Dave loves the outdoors and enjoys cycling whenever he can.

Michele

NEIL

Quality & Compliance Manager

Neil oversees and maintains quality and compliance data across the business, ensuring standards are met and continuously monitored.

He manages accreditations, including ISO, BBA, and HSE requirements, keeping Armadillo Engineering fully up to date with all regulatory and quality obligations. In short, Neil makes sure everything is done properly and that it stays that way.

Outside of work, Neil is an avid rugby fan and a familiar face at Friday skittles scene. He loves spending time with his grandchildren, both close to home and over in Ireland, and rarely misses the chance to enjoy live music, he can be found singing along loudly to the ballad, with far more enthusiasm than restraint.

CALVIN

Design & Projects Engineer

Calvin is responsible for CAD design and preparing detailed drawings for the workshop team, ensuring projects are clearly defined and ready for manufacture.

He works closely with customers on a regular basis, preparing quotes, ordering materials, and supporting projects from initial enquiry through to production.

Outside of work, Calvin enjoys spending time with his two young children and escaping to Devon and Cornwall for family holidays, usually involving designing the best sand castle and one too many icecreams. He plays bass guitar and, before fatherhood, toured the UK with his band. These days, he’s just as happy with a social game of golf, whatever the weather decides to do.

Why the name Armadillo
Engineering

Paul was thinking about animals and engineering and the armadillo stood out.

Its metal-like armour. Its strength. Its resilience. Even its identical offspring.

An armadillo is like a walking piece of engineering and the perfect name for a business built on precision and durability.
