Project Overview
Armadillo Engineering has worked with Dyson for over 30 years across numerous projects. This project involved taking a preliminary 3D concept supplied by Dyson through our Design for Manufacture (DFM) process, to create a servicing tool now used across Dyson's global service centre network.
A handheld tool designed to safely extract a specific component from a Dyson product during servicing.
The Challenge
The tool needed to work in the hands of a wide range of service centre technicians, so ergonomics was central to the brief: comfortable to use regardless of hand size or build, without compromising its core function of safe, reliable extraction.
As a handheld tool used repeatedly throughout the working day, weight was also a key consideration.
Scope of Work
Armadillo took the project from concept through to delivery:
- Design for Manufacture review and refinement of Dyson's preliminary 3D model
- Technical drawing development
- Precision manufacture using turning and 5-axis machining
- Small-quantity production runs
- Export and shipping direct to Dyson service centres worldwide
Scale & Delivery
Rather than a single large production run, the tool is manufactured in small quantities and shipped by Armadillo directly to Dyson service centres around the world.
The Outcome
The finished tool gives technicians worldwide an efficient, ergonomic solution for safe part extraction. With 30-year working with Dyson, it's a partnership built on the kind of trust that keeps them coming back, project after project.
Whatever the challenge, we'll find a way to build it. Tell us about your project.
